You're probably talking about "movements" or more likely a theme and variations, where you're taking a musical idea and changing it around each time. Generally done by adding embellishments, changing the tempo, altering the key/harmony, changing the tone color (difficult without an orchestra), or bringing in a countermelody. --Ratri 21:29, 17 Mar 2006 (EST)
