Joseph is just a nice guy if a little daft. He eally doesn't like seeing bullies pick on people who can't defend themselves. So, when he sees this, he grows fangs and claws, rips out the throats of the bullies and drinks their blood. Sometimes he also hurts the person that was bullied. That doesn't make him happy. Why don't they run away or play dead?
He doesn't remember why he can do this. He would like to know.
Unforunately, Joe was recruited into the police in a city in Alenno. It seemed to be a good job, and he liked being able to help people. In the city, he developed the reputation as the nice guard who gave money and treats to kids and slaughtered criminals . . . But, people tolerated him because he was nice.
But one day Joe had a bad day. He was sent out with two other guardsmen to take care of something. It's all hazy to him. There was a room full of people. Some of them were bad, and some were bleeding. The door out of the room was locked. When people found him, he was the only live person in the room. It seemed that only one person in the room hadn't been killed by him in his blood frenzy was another guard who had a heart attack.
Because he had made so many friends though, it was decided that he should be made "official ambassador of the guards" to Island 255 on duty for 10 years. (Hey, we're rid of him, he's gullible enough to believe it, and we don't have to feel guilty about jailing him.) So, he shipped out, no knowing what to expect, what was expected of him, or quite why he was chosen.
So, he's just been doing what he always does: be nice; every once in while beat up bullies. And every few months he gets a letter telling him he's being a great ambassador. But, with all of this gold fever around, he's gotten the idea into his head that he should get some for himself. And it's surprising how many people are willing to pay for him to beat up bullies. But he's also found that you have to be careful, because some of the people who payed him are mischevious and tricksy.
